Why verification is needed
A criminal record check is about a specific person. Verifying identity helps make sure that the person applying is the person named in the application, and protects people from checks being run about them without their knowledge.
What the steps usually involve
With our service, identity verification is completed with our screening provider through its own secure process, after payment. Depending on the method offered, steps can include:
- Confirming the personal details in your application
- Photographing a valid government-issued photo ID
- Taking a live photo or short video to match against your ID
- Answering questions that only you are likely to know
Tips for a smooth verification
- Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID.
- Make sure your ID is valid and not expired.
- Use good lighting and a steady surface when photographing documents.
- Complete verification in one sitting where possible.
What we will never ask for
We will never ask you to email copies of your ID, send them through our contact form, or share your Social Insurance Number. If you receive such a request claiming to be from us, do not respond and contact support through our website.
